Often times we hear don't look back on the past. It can be associated with negativity, pain, hurt, disappointments, and so much we just want to forget. Let's erase it, it never happened. Looking back can have its advantages and disadvantages. Lot's wife help us understand the disadvantage of looking back.
Lot's family was given the directive, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. Genesis 19:17 Following instructions are very important. Shortcuts or alterations are not permitted. The Divine Plan of God becomes sabotaged by man's deliberate disobedience. Deliberate disobedience leads to dead ends. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26
This was a quick dead end. there are some cases where the process is slower, but the results are the same....Dead End! Looking back was not profitable for Lot's wife. Yes, there are advantages to looking back. The songwriter pens, when I look back over my life and I think things over I can truly say that I've been blessed I've got a testimony.
You see, looking back can cause us to Launch Forward. Constructive meditation and reflection leads to positive change and growth. It is possible to study and learn from the past for a better present and a Launching Forward.
Another songwriter pens, look where He brought me from, look where He brought me from brought me out of darkness into His Marvelous Light, look where He brought me from. Some want to erase the past, but facing it can be key to your Launch. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time. Ecclesiastes 3:11a It's time to Launch Forward.
Looking Back to Launch Forward
